Last Friday, my friend Josh and I went to the Maplewood Arts Walk, where we had the pleasure of watching a very unique trio of women perform a dance that involved large wooden sticks, jingle bells sewn to their knees, and funny hats.
They frolicked through the performance space to live violin, wooden flute, accordion and guitar music, clanking their sticks against one another’s and against the hardwood floor. Josh and I watched an entire piece, smiling nonstop at the pure absurdity of the dance.

When the dancers came to a break, I asked if I could take their picture. It was at this point that Josh and I were both invited to join the dance troupe. Somehow this invitation struck me as not unlike an invitation to join the circus, and so clearly I’ve put some thought into the invitation.
In the end, I’ve decided that I don’t have time right now to take on another creative endeavor, but you know that I was tempted; if for no other reason than for the opportunity to wear a silly hat.

Ah, I think the lady in the middle is the person who runs Focal Point Theater in Maplewood.
If you like Celtic/rock music, I *highly* recommend putting Tempest on your calendar for next April. They will be at The Focal Point on Sat. April 24 (or, Sat. April 10 in Downers Grove, IL – just outside of Chicago.)
You can check them out at http://www.tempestmusic.com
And, the Focal Point’s page is here: http://www.thefocalpoint.org/
