Silver Ballroom Tweetup - The Recap

On Friday, May 14th, a dozen or so St. Louis-area tweeps gathered to inaugurate The Silver Ballroom, in its punk rock pinball glory, to the annals of St. Louis twitter history. I’m perpetually on the lookout for things about St. Louis that would surprise people. The Silver Ballroom certainly qualifies as a pleasant St. Louis surprise. The bar, opened only a few weeks ago by husband and wife team, Steve and Shelly Dachroeden, is small and comfortable. Red walls and dim lighting draw attention to the pinball machines that line the walls. The oldest machines date back to 1971, and the newest (which is scheduled to arrive this week) is a brand new machine. With a 30+ year variance in the age of their pinball machines, The Silver Ballroom is a pretty rad place to go if you’ve never played pinball before (i.e. me) or if you grew up on pinball (i.e. my friend Todd). Food, prepared by Jonathan of Fats Pierre, is street vendor style (hello, NYC!). Besides being fantastic food, it’s damned cheap. The boy and I tried everything on Fats Pierre’s menu and drank for several hours, and our tab was only $43.00. For all of my St. Louis Silver Ballroom Tweetup photos, click here. For more information on The Silver Ballroom, check out this story by the Riverfront Times, or see the bar’s Facebook Page. Come back later this week for a full write-up on Fats Pierre’s fantastic bar food. Fats Pierre also has a Facebook Page. For another tweet-up recap, check out Todd Jordan’s blog, The Broad Brush.

Thanks to @tojosan @nanna_j @bigjstl @ltlraystl@elsicomoro @stltransit @fatspierre @angebird @shemtovc and Tony for coming out, and thanks to @stlsmr for mentioning the tweetup on the Daily.

  • What? No bathroom pictures? lol… Sounds like a great time! Gosh…pinball…nostalgia for momma g.

  • Wait, there was a bathroom? I was so caught up in everything else I never made it there. Ha.

    Milli,
This was an excellent choice for a tweetup. What was not to love?

A great collection of pinball machines, wonderful staff, and plenty of cold beer and good eats. This is a must visit.

I appreciated that they weren’t going for ‘Bevo’ local or any other theme but what they had, pinball and punk.

    Can’t wait to return.

  • Yes! The bathrooms deserve a return visit – when I was in them, I didn’t have my camera with me. That’ll give me good reason to return.
