As I drove into the small, hilly town of Desoto Missouri for their Saturday farmers market in June, I noticed an immaculately-renovated historic Texaco filling station. The pump at the station indicates that gas is just $0.42 per gallon. Later that day in 2010, in another small Missouri town, gas was $2.49 per gallon. I was never very [...] After four straight weeks of 6-day workweeks at my day job, I was due for an unplugged weekend. My boyfriend and I decided to escape into St. Joe State Park in Park Hills, Missouri to pitch our tent and hide in the woods for a day or two. Small town Missouri simply doesn’t stop surprising me. On a recent visit to Washington State Park in DeSoto, Missouri, I learned that Missouri is home to 500-2,000-year-old petroglyphs created by Native Americans. Washington State Park is one of only two parks in Missouri that holds such carvings. The Missouri State Parks website says that the [...] St. Francois State Park was a pleasant surprise. This park sits directly on US Highway 67 north of Bonne Terre, Missouri, and I’ve driven past it countless times through the years without ever visiting it. The park boasts four trails ranging in length from .5-mile (Missouri Trail) to 11-miles (Pike Run Trail). |
