I grew up in Bonne Terre and was a member of the First Baptist Church. My father is 94 years old and still a deacon in that church. He told me that the bell was originally located in the bell tower of the church, but as the building (built in the early 1920's) aged, it was noticed that ringing the bell was causing the bricks in the bell tower to jar loose. So the bell was removed and mounted in front of the church.
The names on the bell are church members at the time the building was erected. More than likely, those members contributed toward the cost of purchasing the bell.

Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you’ve done a awesome job with this. In addition, the blog loads very quick for me on Firefox. Outstanding Blog!

Nice report! Washington DC is my adopted hometown and I'm glad you liked it. My allergies have been getting the better of me this Spring, too. That early start and mild winter didn't help!

That bit about the elite athletes is absolutely hysterical. I love it when I participate in a race that a "big name" is in, if only because I do think it's extremely cool that we all run the same race on the same track. I think that's what makes running such a unique and special sport!

Above all, I'm glad that the run felt good. Those are the runs that keep us going.

How the heck did I miss the wedding? Anyway, belated congratulations to both of you! I really enjoyed the photography classes I took at the Missouri Botanical Garden last year. So much to learn! And I invested in a good tripod too :) You are in such a great area to have fun taking pictures. Hope you'll keep posting them on your blog!
