Just west of Colorado Springs sits Old Colorado City, a Colorado Springs National Historic District at the foot of the mountains where art galleries and boutiques abound, and the people watching is fantastic. Old Colorado City somehow melds hippie mountain town with tourist trap in a way that’s neither off-putting nor artificial.
As Colorado thaws out [...]
As St. Louis came into view on my flight home, the lush green and rolling hills triggered a pang of emotion inside me that I think I might feel for the rest of my life when I visit Missouri. I’d forgotten how brown Colorado is by comparison until coming back earlier this month to run [...]
I drove to Pueblo, Colorado – a town of around 100,000 people, 37 miles south of Colorado Springs – to run in the Pueblo Chieftan Spring Runoff on Sunday. The Runoff includes a kids’ fun run, a 5K, a 10K and a 10-mile run. As part of my training for several upcoming half marathons – [...]
Even though it’s beginning to feel like it’s been a long time since I lived in Brooklyn, I still miss the arts scenes there. Taking the photography my husband gave me as a birthday gift through Bemis School of Art challenges me to continue to grow in how I executive my creative ideas.
I may not [...]
I grew up in rural Missouri, and I lived in rural Missouri for more than two years before moving to Colorado this fall. How I managed to live in the backwoods for so many years without being involved in any serious roadkill action is beyond me. My good luck ended on Wednesday night though, as [...]
Little is more perfectly fall than picking pumpkins together, and Nick and I are both suckers for fall. We decorated our front porch in fall colors, pumpkins and a scarecrow, and we picked pumpkins together as part of a Groupon date at Diane’s Pumpkin Patch in Canon City, Colorado.
Diane’s Pumpkin Patch is a family-run business [...]
Early in Oktober (get it? har har har), Nick and I traveled to a small Colorado town. Said small town is best known for a big hole in the ground near it that you may have heard of — The Royal Gorge. The town is called Canon City, and its population is just over 15,000 [...]
Later this morning, I’ll make my way up 1-25 to the north side of Colorado Springs, where I’ll meet Tonya Hall to be a guest on her radio program, The Tonya Hall Show.
Tonya was in the audience when I spoke at Jeff Pulver’s 140 Character Conference Small Town in Hutchinson, Kansas in September. Although she [...]
Nick and I took a beautiful drive this weekend near Canon City, Colorado, a town of approximately 15,000 people.
Canon City is best known as the home of the Royal Gorge, but what drew us to the town was the Groupon I purchased for a trip for two to Diane’s Pumpkin Patch. At the end of [...]
This afternoon I’ll be stuffing Introvert Melissa into the closet and forcing Pseudo-Extrovert Melissa out to play, as I attend the Pike’s Peak Community Cupboard Community Dinner on my own. I know two other women who will be at the event (co-organizers Kat and Wendy), but because Nick is busy with Army business today, he [...]
