On Sunday, January 16th, I ran my second half marathon. This time my race wasn’t in small town Missouri, but rather in big city Arizona. The P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘N Roll Arizona Half Marathon was held in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa – a glorious part of the country to run in in mid-January. I finished my [...] This year’s Turkey Trot was the first post-Thanksgiving race of its kind in Farmington, Missouri as far as I can tell. Friends, family members and coworkers warned me when I left New York City not to get fat moving home to the Midwest. I’d like to set the record straight about the Midwest being inactive and overweight. This morning was the Go!St. Louis Halloween 10K in St. Louis. Any road race that inspires runners to dress in costume is inherently more fun than the average road race, so I was thrilled to run today. Last Sunday, September 19th, was the day I ran my first half-marathon; the City of Roses Half Marathon in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It hadn’t occurred to me to research proper race recovery (i.e. what to eat, how much to sleep or how far to run in the days following the race) until the race was [...] The City of Roses Half Marathon was held on Sunday morning, September 19th in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The race, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Road Runners was my first half marathon, and its proceeds benefit local running programs, specifically those programs designed for youth runners. Through my teens and twenties, I always respected and admired distance runners. When I turned twenty-eight, I started a new job that sometimes requires long hours. It’s not uncommon to see coworkers in the office at all hours of the day or night, on weekends and on holidays. This morning I ran a 5K race in Festus, Missouri sponsored by an organization called Get Fit Festus. Festus is a town of just under 10,000 people. It’s located roughly an hour south of St. Louis in Jefferson County on Interstate 55. |
